Photochromic pigments work with UV , therefore when the sun emits higher UV levels mainly in the summer, this will react with the pigment and change its color faster. It is also true with UV Black light as this also will change the pigments color. When the UV reaction starts to fade the pigment will revert back to its original inert color.

Photochromic Pigments are photochromic microcapsules in a powder pigment form. ... Photochromic powders are colorless in their inactivated state and become colored when exposed to an ultraviolet light source. They will respond to natural sunlight as well as artificial sources of 365nm “black light”.
